NELSON COUNTY, Kentucky — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a woman’s body was found in a field along Sullivan Lane on Dec. 26.
“Things like this just don’t happen here. She was found with no ID, no visible evidence of any blunt force trauma,” Leo Downs said. He owns the property next to the field where her body was discovered.
A hunter called Downs and the sheriff’s office after coming across the body.
The Nelson County Coroner identified the woman as 43-year-old Mary Teresa Ball of Bardstown.
On Christmas Day, a bizarre car accident across the street from where Ball was found left the driver in an embankment. The driver of the vehicle was Ball’s son. The next day, Ball’s body was found roughly 1,000 ft. away from the crash site.
Deputies are not saying how the two incidents are related.
Balls’ son survived the crash, and investigators are looking into what caused it.
While residents wait to understand what happened, Downs said he is concerned for the family.
“No matter what happened here, this is so sad, and I think everyone just needs to pray for the family,” Downs said.
