Another Louisville Cardinal Team Sits at No. 1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  For the first time, the University of Louisville baseball team begins the season as the No. 1 team in the country. The Collegiate Baseball preseason poll was released Monday.

This is only the second time the Cardinals have been the top team in the country. The last time they were No. 1 was in March 2017.

The top five are:

  1. Louisville
  2. Vanderbilt
  3. Texas Tech
  4. Miami
  5. Arizona State

The Cardinals are coming off a 51-18 season which saw them win the Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division for the fourth time in five years and reached the bracket final at the College World Series, the deepest postseason run ever for the Cards. The Cards finished the year ranked third nationally.

Louisville will see 24 returning players from the 2019 season and head coach Dan McDonnell is set to begin his 14th season as skipper of the program.

The Cardinals 2020 season gets underway February 14, 2020, with a three-game series against Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. The Cardinals home opener is February 19, 2020, against Wright State and Jim Patterson Stadium.
