LMPD wrecker driver killed while trying to tow abandoned truck; I-64 shut down at Cannons Lane

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — All lanes of I-64 are shut down Tuesday morning after a serious accident that has left one man dead.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Public Information Officer, around 9:15 a.m., an LMPD wrecker driver was dispatched to I-64 West after Cannons Lane overpass to tow an F-150 that had been abandoned on the roadway. While the tow truck operator was hooking up the F-150, something went wrong and the tow truck driver was trapped underneath his vehicle. The tow truck driver succumbed to his injuries.

No one else was involved in this incident. 

No ID has been released yet. LMPD is trying to notify the driver’s family.

Traffic is currently being diverted off onto Grinstead from the eastbound side and onto I-264 from the westbound side. 

The interstate will be closed for at least 2-3 hours.
