Police: Man dies in hospital after altercation at Highlands bar

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — UPDATE: LMPD confirms that an employee of Nowhere bar was involved in the altercation. 

According to LMPD, “Through the investigation, it was determined that this incident stemmed from the victim being escorted out of the business due to unruly behavior. Upon exiting, a brief altercation ensued between the victim and a Nowhere Bar employee, where the victim was rendered unconscious as a result of said altercation. At that time police were notified, and the victim was transported to University of Louisville Hospital by LMEMS.”

LMPD has also said that through multiple interviews, no information arose that would lead them to believe the incident could be categorized as a hate crime.

The specifics of what led to this incident are still unclear at this time.

Police are still investigating the matter and the employee of the bar’s name is being withheld at this time.

According to LMPD, the man died Sunday night from his injuries at University Hospital.

Police said a man was taken to University Hospital with “serious physical injuries” after an altercation at a Highlands bar early Sunday, Jan. 5.

Officers responded to Nowhere Bar on Bardstown Road at around 1:15 a.m. Public Information Officer Elizabeth Ruoff said a man in his 30s was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said he died Sunday night.

The Major Crimes Division is investigating the altercation.
