Battle Between Blood Drives in Big Blue Slam Competition

LEXINGTON, Ky.— Blood donations are being collected from now until Friday, January 24 for the 12th annual Big Blue Slam blood drive.

The Big Blue Slam is a friendly competition between the Kentucky Blood Center and LifeSouth Blood Center in Gainesville, Florida. All the blood donations from this event will ensure there is enough blood for patients who require transfusions during the winter months. Think Cats versus Gators except instead of the one with the most points wins, the winner is whichever center collects the most blood.

Blood donations can be given at any of the Kentucky Blood Centers or mobile blood drives. Blood donors will also receive a free “Slam T-shirt”.

Kentucky won in donations last year and hopes to do it again this year.

“We’re behind this week, and we need the big blue nation to come out and help us win this competition and all they have to do is come out and donate, they’ll save a life, we’ll have a good time and we’ll win this competition.” Vice President of Marketing of Kentucky Blood Center, Martha Osborne said.
