Coronavirus Survivor Honored With Drive-Thru Parade

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After 24 days in the hospital, Sheila Thornsberry is safe at home with her family after recovering from the coronavirus.

Sheila tested positive on Sunday, March 29, and was emitted into the hospital on Wednesday, April 1 after having difficulty breathing.

Sheila was put on a ventilator for 19 days until she was finally released and safe to come home Friday, April 24.

“One of the hardest things for me was not being able to be there with her. Not being able to be by her side, not being able to comfort her, talk to her even though she couldn’t hear me because she was sedated” Sheila’s Husband, Ron Thornsberry said.

Ron and his two children decided to put together a surprise drive-thru welcome home party, keeping in mind social distancing for Sheila to drive through as they were bringing her home from the hospital.

“It’s just so they can show how happy they are that she’s home and how much they love her and how excited everybody is to get her back,” Ron said.

Sheila has now tested negative twice and will finish her recovery back at home with her family.
