Charlestown Police: Suspect in custody after multi-county chase

LMPD said four people have been arrested by Louisville police and Indiana State Police. Police are still searching for one suspect.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Four people are facing charges after a multi-county chase Friday morning.

Louisville police said officers responded to a reported carjacking near Oldshire Road around 4:30 a.m. before getting a second report of a carjacking near Carmelwood Drive.

Officers said the suspects were driving separate stolen cars near Preston Highway and Cooper Chapel, and refused to stop when they tried to pull them over.

LMPD said one vehicle crashed and officers arrested the suspects identified as Keyounie Smith and Jemond Groves. They are facing charges of first degree robbery and fleeing and evading.

The second car continued onto Preston Highway, leading officers out of Jefferson County and into Charlestown, Indiana. Indiana State Police arrested two suspects in that car, but another suspect was still on the run.

Multiple agencies searched, using a chopper, drones and K9 units.

Police later located the final suspect in Clark County on S.R. 62 near Fourteen Mile Creek. That person was taken into custody.
