The latest teacher charged is also the brother of the County’s top prosecutor.
LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (WHAS11) — The brother of Grayson County’s top prosecutor became the third Grayson County High School teacher charged with a sex crime involving a student in the last 18 months.
Roger Williams is charged with two counts of sex abuse and possessing child pornography as a result of what investigators called an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old female student.
According to an arrest report, the relationship between Williams and the student started around Christmas 2017. The two, investigators said, unwrapped their feelings in an exchange of text messages talking about sexual acts.
When a different teacher, Jonathan Jones, was arrested in March in a similar but unrelated case and charged with sodomy, investigators said Williams tried to cover up his relationship with the teen.
“Williams told her to delete the text messages and take his number out of the phone just in case,” an investigator wrote in Williams arrest report.
The investigator also said Williams, 62, asked the student to take naked pictures of her private areas but not to send them. Instead, detectives allege, Williams used his own phone to take pictures of the images on the girl’s phone, telling her “this way they couldn’t be caught.”
The teen also told investigators, as recently as Tuesday, Williams touched her bare private areas “while seated at his desk in the High School.”
“I couldn’t imagine what goes on in a guy’s head and especially with a young girl,” Grayson County resident Scott Rouse said, “I’ve always said everybody struggles with something, but that’s sick.”
A man who answered Williams front door did not identify himself and declined to answer questions or comment on the allegations.
“Kind of a shock to me, I guess, I wouldn’t have thought that,” Williams neighbor Cecil Miller said, “I wasn’t expecting nothing like that out of him.”
Officials confirmed Thursday the familial relationship between Williams and Grayson County Commonwealth’s Attorney David Williams. A person who answered the phone at the prosecutor’s Leitchfield office said he was not in the office.
Williams was arraigned Thursday morning. His next court date is unclear.
Court records also did not reveal when Jones was scheduled to return to court. According to a report in The Grayson County News-Gazette, Jones. 26, is accused of allowing a 17-year-old student to perform oral sex on Jones at his home.
A Grayson County grand jury indicted Gavin Logsdon on a rape charge in February 2017, court records show. According to a report in The Grayson Record, Logsdon admitted to having a sex with a 17-year-old.
The report said Logsdon resigned from his position in the school district in November.
Grayson County Schools spokesperson Caryn Lewis said neither Logsdon nor Jones are employed by the district.
She could not confirm Williams’ status with the district, citing personnel restrictions, but said generally when a district employee is charged with a crime, they are fired or resign.
Lewis said Superintendent Doug Robinson was unavailable for an interview, but in an emailed statement, Robinson stressed the district’s primary concern is “always the protection of students”, adding, the district is taking “all necessary steps to ensure the security of every child.”
Should Williams be convicted and register as a sex offender, he would have to move from his current home which stands directly across the street from an elementary school.
